So You Think You Can Write? It’s not just a question. It’s the name of a contest for unpublished romance writers sponsored by Harlequin/Mills & Boon. The winner will receive a two-book series contract from the publisher.
To enter the contest, take note of the following:
Submission: Between Sept. 22 and Oct. 2, you may submit the first chapter of your novel (maximum of 5,000 words), plus 100-word pitch for your planned series. You must target one of Harlequin’s 18 series.
All submissions must be in English and never been published (“published” refers to traditional and self publishing). Writers from the U.S., U.K., Canada (excluding Quebec), Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa are eligible.
Top 25 Entries: Around Oct. 6, Harlequin editors will choose the top 25 entries. The finalists will submit their full manuscripts.
Top 10 Entries: The editors will evaluate and narrow the list to the top 10. Those 10 manuscripts will be posted for voting.
Public Voting: From Nov. 3-10, you can read the 10 finalists, comment, and vote on your favorite manuscripts.
One Lucky Winner: The winner will be announced on Nov. 13.
